Weekly Law Enforcement summary

The City’s Law Enforcement Department had several success this past week.

On Saturday evening, 30 August 2025, at around 17:00, Auxiliary Law Enforcement Officers were provided with information regarding the location of two suspects wanted for theft.

The officers made their way to the location in Constantia and identified one adult male and one adult female matching the description.

Officers located the stolen property (two solar panels) and the duo was placed under arrest.

On the same day, Officers also recovered a stolen motorcycle less than 24 hours after it was stolen.

They noticed a man tampering with a motorcycle in Thornton and when he saw them approaching he tried to hide it under plastic sheets.

He was not the registered owner and couldn’t explain how he came into possession of the motorcycle.

It was discovered the owner was hijacked on the corner of Jakes Gerwel and Voortrekker Roads the previous night.

The suspect was arrested and taken to Pinelands SAPS. On Sunday, 31 August, officers patrolling in Mitchells Plain approached three people, when one started running and discarded an object that turned out to be a 9mm firearm with 10 rounds of ammunition.

Also on Sunday, officers were on duty in Hanover park, as part of a gang operation.

While they were conducting stop and searches in Tiberius Court, one of the officers noticed a male hiding under one of the staircases.

He was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and eight live ammunition rounds and detained at Philippi SAPS.

On Wednesday, 3 September, Law Enforcement Advancement Plan (LEAP) officers responded to a Shotspotter alert at 09:15 in Manenberg.

When they arrived at the location, they saw a man running and gave chase. The 36-year-old suspect was arrested in Manenberg Avenue with an unlicensed firearm and 13 live rounds of ammunition in his possession.

The men scattered when they saw the officers, and one was apprehended.

A silver Taurus pistol, a magazine and ammunition was found in his possession.

The vehicle was found to have been reported as stolen on a Maitland case number in August.

The 38-year-old suspect was taken to Mitchell’s Plain Police Station.

On Thursday, 4 September 2025, LEAP Officers conducted a joint operation with SAPS in Atlantis and executed a search warrant at a premises.

Officers securing the outer perimeter received information that led them to a public garden across the road from the house being searched. 

After some digging, the Law Enforcement officers found two extended pistol magazines wrapped in plastic clingwrap.

Further digging revealed a revolver, also wrapped in plastic clingwrap and then later, another firearm in a different part of the garden.

SAPS members also joined the search and came across ammunition wrapped in a plastic bag, containing more than 20 rounds.

Law Enforcement officers also found 69 Mandrax tablets and approximately three grams of tik in a plastic bag. The premises searched is a known gang stronghold.
